Description
Lilacs in the Sun was painted by Claude Monet in 1872 and is one of his lesser known works. Still painting one of his favorite landscape locations, in this piece has also included some human subjects. Two people sit beneath the lovely blossoming tree, enjoying the beautiful spring day. He has painted them in a very impressionist style, so that they have very few details and almost blend into the nature behind them. They are simply meant to compliment the main focus of the piece, the glorious blooming lilac tree. The people are cast into blue shadows by the white and pink blossoms of the tree as they reach towards the vibrant blue sky. It is a wonderful summer scene painted with a great deal of energy.
