Description

Description

American realist painter Edward Hopper made his name through renderings of how he viewed modern life, and that vision is on display in the painting “Freight Car at Truro”. After marrying fellow painter Josephine Nivison in 1924, the two would spend every summer in the Cape Cod town of Truro, and this oil on canvas is one of many Edward Hopper Truro paintings from his time there. The scene is part of Hopper’s style of creating deceptively complex scenes that featured the everyday objects many wouldn’t think twice about. In depicting a single red deserted freight car, Edward Hopper brings life to its surroundings and makes this machine at one with nature. He makes brilliant use of shadows and places the freight car in perfect symmetry with the rail line, grassy bank and railway pylon as if they are inviting their forlorn counterpart to join them. It’s a perfect reminder that things are never truly forgotten and is the perfect modern wall art for drawing daily inspiration.
