Description
Painted in 1880, Asters by Claude Monet is a rare and beautiful still life by the Impressionist. Although he is most well-known for his elaborate landscapes, Monet had many fine still life pieces he created as well. They often combined his impressionist technique with contrasting colors to create a captivating scene. In this particular painting he used the bright white flowers against a dark background to draw the eye in and hold the viewer’s attention. The way the light cascades across the left side shows how even an indoor setting can create a mood with light. The rich red wood table adds to the natural feel of the flowery subject, even though it is not in its natural environment.
