Degas’ Ballet Rehearsal is another intimate look at dancers that typically perform on Paris stages. Degas reveled in these moments that revealed their true athleticism and character. Their poses are perhaps a bit unladylike, which further accentuates how relaxed they are among each other and, by association, the viewer. And Degas invites the viewer to gaze upon them in this state, as if he is giving the viewer the privilege of backstage access. Degas completed hundreds of these paintings over the course of his career and became a master at depicting the very precise movements of dancer’s limbs and dance moves, as well as their intricate ballet costumes and the complex relationships they have among one another. Our hand-painted recreation of this scene measures 20″ x 24″.
