Description

Description

For nearly 40 years, Edward Hopper and his wife spent their summers on Cape Cod, and his oil paintings of Cape Cod are some of his most well-known works. While the cape has been a popular summer tourist destination for decades, “Cape Cod in October” from 1946 renders the region at a time when only the locals remain. This landscape painting of a single house and surrounding nature, as seen from a passing car, brings to life the relative loneliness of this quieter time. Many Edward Hopper Cape Cod paintings, like his other scenic works, focus on the objects and landscapes that inspired him. This work is no exception, as the innocent white house stands true against the vegetation that is already preparing for the coming winter. It was one of Hopper’s last scenes before his health began to decline, and with this hand-painted reproduction, you can make the last hurrah of both the season and the man a part of your home.
