Description
This hand-painted replica of “Church in Unterach on Lake Attersee” brings a mix of symbolism and cubism to a classic cityscape motif. Painted during the all-too-short period between Gustav Klimt’s Golden Phase and untimely death, this 1916 Austrian painting focuses on the uniquely-designed church in the town where relatives of his companion Emilie Floge lived. The onion-shaped dome towers over the nearby buildings and vegetation, acting as a beacon for the shore community. Like with his other Lake Attersee paintings, Klimt works from the perspective of one viewing the landscape from the opposite bank.
