Description
Degas’ Dancers, Pink and Green displays yet another scene from his beloved Paris Opera. Once again, we see the stage from the wings as two dancers prepare to take flight on stage and either practice their moves or speak to each other about the upcoming performance or perhaps both. Degas painted many similar scenes with intimate moments pre-performance and allows the viewer a glimpse of a private world in the back of the opera house that they would otherwise not be privy to. The dancers here are depicted in great detail while the scene around them remains somewhat blurry. This is another hallmark of Degas’ style, along with very carefully depicted poses, particularly the back and arms of the central figure. The original was completed in 1894. Our recreation measures 20″ x 24″.
