As one of the preeminent painters of the modernist movement, Alfred Henry Maurer spent much of his time studying famous works at the Louvre. Before his death from suicide at the age of 64, Maurer achieved limited commercial success, but managed to carve out a reputation as a respected avant-garde practitioner.
