Description
One of Claude Monet’s most vibrant pieces, Flower Beds at Vetheuil was painted in 1881. The town of Vetheuil provided Monet with an escape from the city and a chance to paint real nature with all of its energy. One of the places he enjoyed was the riverbank garden whose climbing flowers he represented with swirls and strokes of orange in this painting. The water and the opposing bank can be seen in the background but the artist skillfully draws the eyes to the foreground where the wildflowers are blooming. The cool tones of blue and green give it a serene sense of calm, while the bright flowers give it joy.
