Degas’ Houses at the Foot of a Cliff is one of the roughly dozen landscapes he painted at the seaside resort of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme on the coast of France. The whereabouts of only about half are currently known today. Degas is primarily recognized for his depictions of the human form, which is part of what makes this landscape painting so fascinating. He is able to imbue the houses and cliffs with a certain haunting beauty, much like he does with his human figures. This seaside resort had a huge impact on Degas in his later years as he explored landscape painting in greater detail. Our artists have managed to recreate the beauty Degas captured with stunning accuracy. This oil reproduction measures 20″ x 24″.
