One of the early leaders of the Impressionist painting style, Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s “Medlar Trees, Cagnes” is a fitting introduction to the final years of his work. Renoir moved to the French Riviera town of Cagnes-sur-Mer in 1907 as rheumatoid arthritis was beginning to severely hamper his movement and technique. A year later, he produced this colorful painting of the medlar trees on his farm “Les Collettes”, using his influential technique to show off the picturesque region.
