Description

Description

By the time Oat Fields was created, Monet had built up the well-known gardens of his home in Giverny. The landscape around Vernon and Gasny provided many inspirations for Monet to work from. Claude Monet’s Oat Field, also called Champ d’avoine, painted in 1890 is a significant example of the artist’s obsession with atmospheric lighting. The rhythmic yet broken brushstrokes exhibited in this work are archetypal of the Impressionist style, leaving behind a highly decorative and emotive take on landscape painting. It depicts the artist’s yard at Giverny, with mature oats and poppies melting into a soft blue sky. For lovers of Monet, this scene represents the height of the artist’s studies at Giverny and hangs in the Harn Museum of art in Florida.
