Description

Description

Grace your home with this reproduction of one of Edgar Degas’ classic works! First painted in 1875 at the age of 41, Place de la Concorde depicts Degas’ friend and fellow artist Victome Ludovic-Napoléon Lepic enjoying a cigar at the Place de la Concorde in Paris, accompanied by his daughters, dog, and an unknown solitary man. You can also see the Tuileries Gardens behind the stone wall in background. Born in Paris in 1834, Edgar Degas began painting early in his life while also earning a degree in literature. After dropping out of law school to become a history painter, he eventually began applying these traditional painting techniques to modern subject matter. This simple but elegant oil painting is one of Degas’ “snapshots,” freezing a moment in time much like a photograph.
