Description

Description

Whether fleeing the bustling life of 19th century Paris or the draft for the Franco-Prussian war, Paul Cezanne returned to L’Estaque year after year. What was once a tranquil fishing village on the Mediterranean coast has since been annexed into the nearby city of Marseille. Cezanne’s angular compositions in a subtle variety of earth tones would inspire Renoir to come visit, followed later by Georges Braque, Andre Derain, and Emile Zola. Each artist interacted with the town in their own way but it’s easy to see why Cezanne’s simple palette and short, angular strokes caused such an increase in traffic. This handmade reproduction provides the warm, earthen feel of the coastal cliffs to any wall.
