Description
Sea Coast at Troutville by Claude Monet was painted in 1881and features a single tree, deformed by the constant attack of onshore winds. The horizon line is a haze of creamy blue strokes and a lush green field behind the tree deprives it of volume, so that it appears flat against the background. The low blue bushes that extend from one edge of the canvas to the other echo the general form of the tree’s foliage. The tree in itself has a dream-like quality, as it bends and twists with the broad strokes of the brush. The deep blues and greens absorb the light and give life the landscape.
