Description
The Japanese Bridge (also known as The Water-Lily Pond, Water Irises) was painted by Claude Monet in 1900. Monet admired nature’s central role in Japanese culture, and here creates a hybrid of motifs with his impressionist palette. He first seriously explored translating the garden into paint in 1899, and it became his obsessive focus for the next quarter century. This particular piece comes alive with the warm vivid tones of red and purple, moving away slightly from the blue and green tones he is known for in most of his water-lily paintings.
