Description

Description

24″X36″Oil Painting On Canvas In 1886 and 1887, Vincent van Gogh created a series of paintings depicting the Seine – the large river central to Parisian life. These were made just as Van Gogh began to express an interest in Impressionism but before he had completely developed his trademark style. A theme common to these and his later works is the solace and respite made available by nature to the increasingly stressed urban population. This piece from June of 1886 shows an historic bridge and the Louvre behind it. Originally built in the 13th century as a fortress, it would later become a royal palace and most recently, a world-class museum. This museum was the first place Van Gogh visited upon arrival by train in Paris. Imagine this iconic setting through the eyes of one of the world’s most famous and talented artist with the help of one of our handmade oil on canvas reproductions.
