Description

Description

Claude Monet painted the Road to Bas-Breau, Fontainebleau in 1865 during one of his many visits to the rural French countryside. Similar to the many other landscapes he created, this one used broad brushstrokes and bright vivid colors, but has a unique view point at the head of the lane. Instead of a horizontal layout, he provides us with a focal point in the distance that draws the eye inward. The rise of the trees on each side of the pathway, give the painting much more depth than some of his other pieces. The rich greens and natural browns contrast with each other to show the play of light across the setting.
