Description

Description

Perhaps best known for his works depicting the female form with geometric and floral abstractions, Vienna Secession painter Gustav Klimt was heavily influenced by Japanese art. Water Serpents II (Detail), which was painted between 1904 and 1907, is a prime example of the artist’s work covering the female body. Called Wasserschlangen II in German, this painting marks the climax of Klimt’s body of work wherein he forged his iconic style. The original work was done on parchment paper, and was only shown to a private group of connoisseurs, which allowed the artist to show the female form in an erotic context without censorship. It is one of many of Klimt’s paintings depicting sensual women in water, and portrays the female subjects as fish-like forms. The vibrant coloring and bewitching shapes makes this Klimt reproduction ideal for any art-lover’s space.
