When we think of Vincent van Gogh, we often think of two significant works: Starry Night and Wheat Field with Cypresses, both of which celebrate the famous Van Gogh cypress tree. The latter was painted by Van Gogh in 1889 as part of his wheat field series, which was painted at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole mental asylum at Saint-Rémy, where the artist was a patient suffering from bouts of mental illness. Depicting golden fields of wheat and a towering cypress tree, Wheat Field with Cypresses by Vincent Van Gogh, the same one depicted in the artist’s Starry Night. The work was completed in several versions, including a reed-pen drawing and a small and large studio version.
