Bulb Fields, also known as Flower Beds in Holland , is one of Van Gogh’s very early works. It’s accepted to be his first garden painting. Notice the more numerous and significantly truncated brushstrokes, creating a finer, subtler look. The beds of flowers, characteristic of Van Gogh’s Dutch homeland, are arranged in a vibrant geometric panorama that draws the viewer into the scene. This work presages his later fascination and prolific body of work concerning rural life and manual laborers.
